A brief sketch of luminous biography of Hazrat Qutbul Alam Shah Sufi Syed Ghulam Mawla
Hossainee Chishty Shampuri R. A.
The venerable descendents of the Holy Prophet S.A; (Awlad-e Rasul), e.g. the Syeds have been travelling across the countries throughout the centuries to preach and flourish the divine spirituality of Islam. Following the same tradition, one highly exalted, Oli-Allah, a progeny from the Husainee Iineage of the luminous family tree of the holy Prophet S.A, came in the green land of Bengal from the heartland of Islamic scholars, Baghdad, during the fag end of the fifteenth century e.g. in the sixteenth century. His holy name is Hazrat Shah Sufi Syed
Maruf Hossainee Baghdadi, Sajjada Gashtar R.A. He came to this country, crossing the sea by seating on a prayer-mat with God-gifted miraculous karamat. For this reason, his holy title is Sajjada Gashtar, (a person who travels by sitting on a prayer mat). He first arrived at the village, Hawla (presently Syedpur) of Anowara Thana (currently, belongs to Boalkhalee Thana), and founded his holy abode there. His holy mazar-pak exists here. In the fourteenth down order of the family chain of the above mentioned great Oli-Allah, the holy founder of the Chishtinagar, Hazrat Qutbul Alam, Shah Sufi Syed Ghulam Mawla Hossainiee Chishty, Shampuri (R.A) was born at the renowned Shampur Dayera Sharif, whichbelongs to Ramgonj Thana of greater Noakhali district (currently Laksmipur), on 1 Jaishtha(second month) of Bengali year 1312; 15 May,1905; 9 Rabi-ul-Awal 1323; at the very earlydawn on Manday. He was renowned as Shampuri by the name of the place he was born, Shampur. Notably, his fourth up order ancestor was the great founder of the Shampur Dayera Sharif, Hazrat Tajol Aulia, Qutbul Aqtab, Shah Sufi Syed Zakiuddin Husainee, Zendapeer, Islamabadi R.A.
The virtuous father of Hazrat Shampuri Qebla (R.A), Hazrat Shah Sufi Syed Ghulam Kibria Husainee R.A. was the qadam-band * gadinasheen peer (incumbent) of the Shampur
Dayera Sharif. Born of his sermen and in the holy womb of Syeda Asia Khatun (R.A), a greatly virtuous daughter of the time-honoured Syed villa of Lalbaag village in Comilla district, two sons were born. The elder son, Hazrat Shah Syed Mawlana Ghulam Sarwar Hossainiee (R.A) was concurrently a peer and a renowned politician of the Indian subcontinent. During the British reign. he was a M.L.A (member of Iegislative assembly), and during the Pakistan period, he was a member of the erstwhile East Pakistan parliament.
The younger son, Hazrat Shah Sufi Syed Ghulam Mawla Hossainee Chishty Shampuri R.A, by attaining the highest peak of ruhaneeat, e.g. spirituality, founded the Chishtinagar and earned fame throughout the world as “Hazrat Shampuri” Predictions and good news about his birth e.g. arrival in this world, were announced in the voice of the world famous Aulia kerams. The great founder of the famous Sureshwar Darbar Sharif, Hazrat Mawlana Jaan Sharif Sureshwaree Qebla R.A. was staying at a house of one of his devotees in an adjacent village, during the birth-moment of Hazrat Shampuri Qebla R.A. During thatauspicious moment, Hazrat Sureshwaree Qebla R.A. told his devotees, “today an Oli- Allah has appeared at the Shampur Dayera Shareef This child has come with the sovereignty to rule both worlds. All Oli-Allah are delighted on his arrival. Good signs are visible to have an earthly relationship with me and the child”. While returning back to his abode, Sureshwaree Qebla R.A. told his wife in private, “I have come seeing your son-in-law”. Eight years later of the above incident, that virtuous daughter was born in the womb of hiswife.The ancestors of Hazrat Shampuri Qebla R.A. possessed unfathomable erudition in religious studies, and were well renowned throughout the country as Alem e.g. the learned religious scholars. From the very childhood, Hazrat Shampuri Qebla R.A. possessed God-gifted talent and memory power, and at the same time, he had profound passion for learning. On the other hand, he held matchless splendor and divinely radiant face. With the increase of age, that extra- ordinary radiance and beauty started to grow successively, and begun to make the world continuously charmed and marveled. By losing his mother only at the age of three, he earned ‘sunnat-e miras’ of the holy Prophet S.A. At the childhood, he completed primary education at the local Minor School. Due to his extra-ordinary talent, he had to leave home for earning higher education at the very early appearance of adolescence. He was first enrolled at Laksam of Comilla district, and later at the famous Government Mohsenia Madrasa in Chittagong. The principal of this madrasa was an uncle of Shampuri Qebla R.A. His uncle held M. A (Master of Arts) degree from the Aligarh University. Under his complete supervision and guidance, academic life of Hazrat Shampuri Qebla R.A. was entrusted, which added a new dimension in pursuit of knowledge of Hazrat Baba Shampuri Qebla R.A. Stepping beyond the boundary of routine syllabus, he enlarged the domain of his scholastic aptitude by great margin, and lifted it to paramount height. Due to extra-ordinary merit since the early childhood, he started to wander with matchless proficiency in the realm of knowledge and started to earn unimaginable success in methodical studies of Islam, including the holy Quran and the Hadith, and concomitantly, in history of Islam and learning of various languages. These virtues were enriched with his captivating splendor, unprecedently charming and virtuous character, humility, and profound love for religion. In the whole academic circle, he was loved and respected by all. During this time, he was suddenly struck by incurable kalazar, a deadly tropical fever, prevalent in Assam in India. During that time, this fever was as deadly as cancer of recent time. It may be mentioned that a daughter of the great poet Rabindra Nath Tagore helplessly died from kalazar, despite arrangements of all types of treatments. Hazrat Shampuri Qebla R.A. was also approaching to a critical stage day by day being struck by this deadly disease and no treatment was in effect. During this time, suddenly at one night, he dreamt that a greatly luminous divine person has emerged on his holy chest. In his holy hand, there was a piece of paper. He placed the paper on the chest of Baba Shampuri and uttered, “Hazrat Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz has written you this letter. Recite the supplication written in this letter.” While he woke up, he found that the supplication has been instantly memorized. Laying on the sick bed, he continuously recited the supplication and started to cure. After few days, he dreamt the holy appearance of Hazrat Khwaja Baba Ghareeb Nawaz Moinuddin Chishty Ajmeree R.A., and within few days, he became completely cured. After that he sighted some more supernatural signs, and started to receive indications for a new life. After that, he came in Dhaka to attain higher education and was enrolled at the Senior Madrasa of the Nawab family by the will of his guardians. Here also, he started to demonstrate extra-ordinary achievements. With great vigor, his higher studies started to progress. His respected father and uncle planned to send him to world famous Al-Azhar University in Egypt for higher studies after completion of his education in Dhaka.
With remarkable achievements, his education in Dhaka progressed, and he concentrated more deeply in study with the hope to earn the highest degree from Al-Azhar University.severe anxiety. His mind became deeply grieved to give up indomitable passion to climb at the highest peak of learning. He successively dreamt the previous dream, and became distressed with sorrow, and offered the humble prayer to fulfill his cherished desire. Suddenly, one day, his extraordinary merit, which was bestowed by Allah, became completely extinct, and he could not recollect anything. This incident made him restless. At one stage, with the aspiration to fulfill his longing, he arrived in Sylhet, at the holy Darbar of the spiritual emperor of Bengal, “Sultan-e Bangla”, Hazrat Shah Jalal Baba
Mojarred Yemeni R.A. and started doing rigorous prayers and religious practices. He performed nafal roza (voluntary fasting), begun iftar (break fasting) with only water from “Jam Jam”, performing nafal prayer and reciting dorud sharif throughout the night; his eating and sleep started to decline and approached to almost zero. Thirty nine days were passed there through rigorous meditation. On the fortieth day after the Zohr prayer, a graceful, very handsome and long-haired dervish came to him with a mysterious look in his eye’ and holding a piece of batasa (small sweet) he said, “have it”. Hazrat Shampuri replied “I am fasting”. The dervish with strange voice told, “this fasting is not for you”. The dervish went away. During the evening, at the time of iftar, the mysterious dervish reappeared and again stretching the hand holding a batasa, ordered, “hold it, and eat”. This was not merely an utterance, it aroused playing enchanting flute. That sound engulfed the whole entity of Hazrat Shampuri R.A., and being spellbound, he ate the batasa. And, right at that moment, took place a supernatural incident. An unknown electric wave moved his entire being. Within a moment, all the realizations of material world, all desires, longings, and expectations vanished like camphor. A strong unearthly madness of love to Allah engulfed his entire existence. The dervish said him, “come with me”. He followed the dervish, driven by an unknown force. After passing a long trail, they entered into a dense forest and went into a neat and clean mosque without having any inhabitant. The whole night passed with various supernatural incidents and receiving instructions. Before the Fajr prayer, the dervish took him again to the Mazar-e Pak of Shah Jalal Baba. The holy order came from the Mazar-Pak, “send him to Ajmer Sharif”. After receiving the holy order, a new chapter in his life begun. After searching for the disappeared dervish for three days in Sylhet, in a state of complete intoxication with Godly love, he set for the journey to the holy land of Ajmer, forgetting everything. During the journey, many incidents took place. In Delhi, one month was spent in rigorous meditation and reyazat at the luminous Darbar of Hazrat Khwaja-e Khwajegan, Nizamuddin Aulia, Mahbub-e Elahee R.A., who was an world famous, and renowned in history as an supreme Oli-Allah. The holy lives of all distinguished Aulia-Allah of the world are full with evidence on unparallel rigorous reyazat e.g. “Jihadim bin nafs” (war against own instinct). Those, who were Aulia from their mother’s womb, their lives were also full with rigorous and painstaking reyazat. The holy Prophet S.A has announced this Jihadim bin nafs, or war against one’s own instinct as the greatest jihad or supreme religious war. The holy Prophet S.A uttered: “We advanced from small religious war to the greatest religious war (Jihadil Akbar).” By fighting the Jihadil Akbar or following the trail of reyazat, the beloved (Mahbub) Oli-Allah cross different makamat or
state, and earn Allah’s qorbiat or nearness and become fana in Allah, or become completely dissolved. After spending one month meditation-full period at the holy Darbar of Hazrat Khwaja Nizamuddin Aulia, he was engrossed in rigorous meditation at the Darbars of renowned Oli-Allah of Delhi. After that, he arrived at the holy land of Ajmer from Delhi by only walking barefooted through out fourteen days. His whole body was afflicted with the marks of severe anguish and pains for days after days and months after months. Severe anguish, stemmed from rigorous meditation covered his unprecedently radiant face, however surpassing everything, an unearthly beam of light gleamed from the face, illumined with unprecedented meditation. The two eyes were deeply absorbed into eternal love to Allah, and un-satiated thirst up to the throat to catch sight of the beloved Khawja. In Ajmer Sharif, he placed his holy forehead on the quadrangular door frame of the Rawza Pak of Khwaja Baba. At once, the marble stone of the door frame attracted his holy forehead like a magnet. He could not lift his head for near about six hours. In the holy land of Ajmer, a new episode in his life begun. This episode is full of hardest meditation-full prayer, religious practices, reyazat, and extreme madness of love to Allah. This chapter is full with unearthly and supernatural incidents. Here, it is imperative to clearly realize that in Islamic Tasauf, there is no place for asceticism, stemmed from hopelessnss and emptiness. In Tasauf, there is “sacrifice” with graceful magnificence. It is not due to despair or asceticism, this war and hard adoration against instinct are called for in the Tasauf, rather it is to color the life with its real and absolute beauty and fill the life with ultimate and absolute rewards. In Hadith-e qudsee, Allahpak announce: “Takhluku be akhlaqillah”, meaning, construct your own habits in the habits of Allah. The Oli-Allah in their holy lives, indulge in sacrifice, austerity and meditation to free the human entity from the lblisee (devilish) habits and instincts and color it with Godly traits.
Hazrat Shampuri Qebla R.A spent a life, with rigorous mediation in Ajmer Sharif for a period of long fourteen years at a time. We refrain from long description of this time in this brief life portrait. Respected readers are requested to only know that the entire domain of this time period is full with graceful Godly glory and supremacy, and unearthly incidents. A more detail discussion is available in his complete biography, titled, “Hazrat Qutbal Alam
Shampuri Qebla R.A.”. Even during this rigorous meditation-full life, he extensively studied at famous libraries in Delhi and Ajmer Sharif and collected rare information on the history of holy life of Hazrat Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz. During the subsequent time, he authored six books in Bengali language. One of his books was exhibited in Delhi International Book Fair and it has been conserved in the Library of Congress of the United States of America. At an extreme and ultimate moment of his long and rigorously meditation-full life, one day the Shahan-shah (undisputed monarch) of belayet of the entire universe, Sultan-ul-Hind, Hazrat Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz Moinuddin Chishty Ajmeree R.A., by supernatural power, appeared in front of Hazrat Shampuri Qebla R.A., bestowed him with the sight in reality, and advancing his (Ghareeb Nawaz) holy hand, granted him (Baba Shampuri) bayat, or mureed. Hazrat Shampuri Qebla R.A. became mureed in the holy hand of Ghareeb Nawaz in the “Waesia silsila (tradition)” of the Chishtia tariqat. While, by receiving immeasurable faez and neyamat (favors and blessings) from his great ancestors, he was “zaddi Chishty”, with the above incident, he became a very high ranking “Waesi Chishty”. The Shahan-shah of belayet of the entire universe, Hazrat Sultan-ul Hind Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz Moinuddin Chishty Ajmeree R.A. himself, bestowed Baba Shampuri R.A. with spiritual treasures e.g. wealth of belayet, and granted him (Baba Shampuri) his (Ghareeb Nawaz) own Khelafat (Representative). Later, Hujoor Ghareeb Nawaz ordered him to return to the green Iand of Bengal and begin family life by marrying the daughter of Hazrat Qotbe Ershad Mawlana Jaan Sharif Sureshwaree Qebla R.A., Syedatuna, Shahzadee Arefe Khatun Chishty R.A., and enrich the marefat-e Elahee through preaching Chishtia tariqat. Especially, Huzoor Ghareeb Nawaz entrusted him a special duty and power to nourish and manifest the spiritual treasure contained in sema or spiritul music in the land of Bengal; which was introduced and proclaimed by the Imams of different tariqats and world famous Aulia-Allah as a means to attain spiritual treasures and religious fulfillment. Notably, in this context, his ancestor, the great founder of the Shampur Dayera Sharif, Hazrat Tajol Aulia, Shah Sufi Syed Zakiuddin Zendapeer R.A. predicted a long before, “He will come from Ajmer Sharif with the sema of Chishtia tariqat……” Carrying the holy order of Huzoor Ghareeb Nawaz on his head, Hazrat Shampuri Qebla came back to the bosom of Bengal. Here also he spent a life, which was full with rigorous reyazat. Despite being confronted with numerous obstacles and adversaries and enmity, he continued to perfom his duties, and remained firm. During this eventful stage in life, in accordance with the holy order of Huzoor Ghareeb Nawaz, he was engaged in matrimony with Shahzadee Arefe Khatun, the daughter of one of the most prominent Oli-Allah of the Indian subcontinent, the great founder of the Sureshwar Darbar Sharif, situated in the Naria Thana of Shariatpur district,, Hazrat Qotbe Ershad Mawlana Jaan Sharif Sureshwaree Qebla R.A.. Hazrat Sureshwaree Qebla died long before this incident. However, while he was alive, Hazrat Sureshwaree Qebla built a one-storied building at Sureshwar, by the side of the river Padma, and announced, “One day, my dearest family member, and the most affectionate one will live here”. Honoring his wish, Hazrat Shampuri began his family life at this house. At the same time, he started to perform the duty of preaching the tariqat widely and institutionally. Allahpak created his virtuous wife, Hazrat Shahzadee Arefe Khatun with all necessary virtues to uninterrupt all activities of his life, which were greatly planned. From the beginning day of the family life till the last moment, this gracious lady continued most ardent efforts to ensure that family does not become a constraint to the lifestyle of her noble husband. During this time, he had to engage in open religious debates, known as “bahas” with the renowned so called alem of contemporary time, holding opposing believes. Even, he had to withstand violent attacks from some oppositions. However, by dint of his spiritual power and extra-ordinary knowledge and wisdom, Allahpak granted him victory in every case. Some notable “bahas” or “monazera” include “the bahas of Shatnol”, “the bahas of Mymensingh”, “the bahas of Shampur”, “the bahas of Maijdicourt”, etc. On 29 Ashyin of Bengali year 1359, in 1952 A.D, Hazrat Shampuri Qebla moved with his family from Sureshwar to a newly purchased house at Panditsar. In this place, he founded the Chishtinagar Khanka-e Chishtia. His physical and spiritual hall marks, which were exceptional, added an exceptionally new chapter in the history of this region. His flawless physical appearance, exceptional behavior and lifestyle, scholarship in the religion and history of Islam, extra-ordinariness as a venerable Oli-Allah, his activities related to dissemination of Chishtia tariqat—all these established him as an exceptional personality in the eyes of all local people. Favourable impression and attraction were created in the mind of the mass people. At the same time, hatred was created in the mind of a handful of reactionary and parochial class. In the course of time, this Chishtinagar Khanka-e Chishtia has been transpired with the exalted status as a welfare center for flourishing spiritual mind and accomplishing earthly betterment. On 24 Magh of the Bengali year 1392, 7 February in 1986, Friday, he breathed his last at his ownfounded Chishtinagar, and after being laid to rest, earned the seperationless eternal unity with Allah Jolleshanuhu through besal-e haqeeqi. ‘Innalillahe wa inna ilaihe rajiun’.
He is the Morshed (the Holy Master) of Chishtinagar Khanka-e Chishtia – Forever
Hazrat Shampuri Qebla R.A. has founded the Chishtinagar Khanka-e Chishtia in the bosom of Bengal, holding the holy turban of spiritual representativeness of the undisputed spiritual emperor of greater Indian subcontinent, Sultan-ul Hind Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz Moinuddin Chishty Ajmeree R.A.. In accordance with the holy order of Huzoor Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz, he announced that Chishtinagar is the “Ajmer-e sanee”, or the second Ajmer, in the bosom of Bengal. Many exalted personalities of Ajmer Sharif have supported this holy announcement. In the gadee-sharif, established by Hazrat Shampuri Qebla at this Chishtinagar, the gadeenasheen peer sahibs will sit and preach tariqat, followimg the holy orders of Baba Shampuri, in century after century. But, they will essentially follow the wasila of Baba Shampuri, uphold his ideals and fully comply with his instructions; and playing the drum of his holy name, keep the stream, established by Baba Shampuri, ever flowing. In the great holy land of Ajmer Sharif, drums have been beating only in the glory of the holy name of Huzoor Ghareeb Nawaz, throughout a long time span, encompassing near about nine hundred years, and millions of slaves of Allah are being gratified by bathing in the sea of his spiritual faez and neyamat. Thousands of gadee-nasheen peer sahibs are performing entrusted duties century after century, however, in all dimensions, all spheres, all premises, there is only Khwaja and Khwaja, he is the unique lustrous entity. The same ideal is established in Chishtinagar also. Here, except for Shampuri Qebla, no mazar and nobody’s name and ideal will receive prominence. Peers will come in century after century, they will grant bayat, and perform ruhanee duties—but everything will be done from the endless spiritual luminous shelter of Hazrat Shampuri Qebla, He is the holy Morshed e.g. the only.
